The article talks about how we should teach kids skills that are important for their future. The skills we should teach include financial literacy and an entrepreneurial mindset. In a world that is filled by both technological changes and economic changes, teaching these skills in schools has become more important. Financial literacy has a lot of important skills, like budgeting, saving, managing credit, and understanding investments. In the survey “2014 S&P Global FinLit Survey”, only one-third of the global population is financially literate, showing a big knowledge gap in finance. In the study on the  United States, the 2015 National Financial Capability Study revealed that nearly two-thirds of Americans could not pass a basic financial literacy test. This lack of knowledge is connected to a lot of issues, including people relying too much on the government, So by educating students on financial literacy, we can teach them responsible decision-making. Is Fast Food The New Tobacco?

I believe that people should be responsible for their well-being. When people are responsible for themselves, they are more likely to be more mindful of their actions. This can lead to people eating better, and regular exercise. By encouraging personal responsibility we can lead to a culture of accountability, where people prioritize their health and are encouraged to find healthier options, rather than relying on the government to find solutions for their problems. In the article “What You Eat Is Your Business” Radley Balko talks about how people should be responsible for what they eat. According to Balko “Instead of manipulating or intervening in the array of food options available to American consumers, our government ought to be working to foster a sense of responsibility in and ownership of our own health and well-being." This shows that we should prioritize our well-being and take action to manage our diets and lifestyles. In the article “Don't Blame the Eater”, Davi...

Is Pop Culture Good For You?

Image
As I read the “Gladwell Article- Small Changes” and “Johnson Article- Watching TV Makes You Smarter” articles and listened to “Pop culture is dead!” and “Why Pop Culture?” TED talks, I can say that pop culture is good for you. A reason people are against pop culture is because it is a change they are not used to. In the article, Small Changes the author Malcolm Gladwell, talks about how social media has changed how people fight for social and political changes. Also, it isn’t as effective as when people did sit-ins like the one he mentioned in Greensboro, North Carolina. As the sit-ins were caused without the help of social media, Malcolm believes that the change to social media for activism is unnecessary. I think this to be wrong as with pop culture and social media, we are aware and can connect with people who experience problems we are currently facing.  Another reason people are against pop culture is that it may cause an obsession with becoming a celebrity. In (Ted 2015) Ph...

My earliest memory of being literate was when I was 5 years old reading a Cat in the Hat book. I was helped, supported, and inspired by my mom because not only did she take time off work to help me, but she also went over the words I was confused with. This encouraged me to keep trying as I may have given up on the book but since Mom helped me I had to try harder to finish the book which significantly impacted my literacy development. I began to feel literate in 2nd grade as I could read on my own and was pronouncing words on my own. I enjoy writing fiction stories as I feel I have more freedom to put my thoughts and ideas on paper. However, I like to read non-fiction and biographies because I like to learn about people's life stories and how their struggles impacted them. I love listening to music such as some old-school R&B music and others. Finally, I like to watch shows on Netflix such as Cobra Kai, All American, and Young Sheldon. Also, I started to watch more sports, a...
