Literacy Blog
My earliest memory of being literate was when I was 5 years old reading a Cat in the Hat book. I was helped, supported, and inspired by my mom because not only did she take time off work to help me, but she also went over the words I was confused with. This encouraged me to keep trying as I may have given up on the book but since Mom helped me I had to try harder to finish the book which significantly impacted my literacy development. I began to feel literate in 2nd grade as I could read on my own and was pronouncing words on my own.
I enjoy writing fiction stories as I feel I have more freedom to put my thoughts and ideas on paper. However, I like to read non-fiction and biographies because I like to learn about people's life stories and how their struggles impacted them. I love listening to music such as some old-school R&B music and others. Finally, I like to watch shows on Netflix such as Cobra Kai, All American, and Young Sheldon. Also, I started to watch more sports, action, and 2000’s sitcom shows.
Something that frustrated me when I was learning to read was my attention span. When I was younger, I didn't really want to sit down and read. I was more interested in playing games and playing outside with my friends. So when I couldn’t go outside I was very frustrated as I couldn’t play games and was forced to read
A few role models of mine are my mom, dad, and grandmother because they push me to be a better person. They are my role models for so many reasons. They instilled core values and ethics that make me the person I am today. They also supported me and sacrificed a lot for my family and me by working hard and getting our every need which is my they are my role models.
As a literate person today I feel literacy is important in not only the school room but day-to-day life because it affects the way you can view life. Literacy also opens us to new cultures. With literature, we are able to learn more about people and their cultures.
Currently, the people who inspire my literacy development are my dad and grandmother. They always encourage me to read when I have the chance and also to write summaries about what I just read. Also, my mother because she also brought me books so I never had a shortage of books when I was young.
I continue to use literacy in my personal life by driving. Literacy is very important to my life as being literate helps me to drive and navigate signs. Without this driving to unknown places would be impossible because I would get lost as I wouldn’t be able to read the signs and exits. Also being illiterate in college would be extremely difficult as reading is an important part of college and not being able to would affect the way I learn and do my assignments.
You share some good info. Need to work on the visual part of the blog and neatening up the aesthetics.
